Dear Ohev Tzedek Congregants and Friends:
Saturday, August 5: Services (Torah Portion: Va’etchanan) begin at 9:45 am. This Saturday will mark the first service under our new spiritual co-leadership. Please make every effort to attend services to support Sandy Kessler and Dario Hunter in this transition.
Both Sandy Kessler and Dario Hunter will hold regular office hours. Sandy will be available on Mondays from 9:30-11:30 am (except this coming Monday, August 7) and on Thursdays after Minyan until 11 am. Dario will be available on Wednesdays from 11 am-3 pm.
The Board of Directors will meet on Wednesday, August 9 at 7 pm.
High Holiday Reminders: The deadline for L’Shana Tovah greetings is Tuesday, August 15. The deadline for names the Yom Kippur Book of Remembrance is Monday, August 21. The office will also be placing an order for lulav/etrog sets for Sukkot; if you are interested, please note that the order must be placed by Tuesday, September 5 to ensure arrival by the holiday. Cost is $45/set.
Join us for a Kabbalat Shabbat service and potluck in the park! We will meet in Boardman Park’s Chester Long Pavilion at 6 pm on Friday, August 25. Bring your favorite vegetarian/dairy dish to share, and help us celebrate the summer and our new spiritual leadership. All are welcome! Please RSVP to the Ohev Tzedek office by Monday, August 21.
Hadassah is now collecting fall clothing at Raks as part of a fundraiser. (Winter items will be accepted in November.) Drop-off days are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday; their number at Raks is 6984. Murder Mystery Dinner at Diletto Winery: Thursday, August 17, 6-8:30 pm. $45/member, $60/non-member. Join us for a fun evening of dinner, drinks, and drama! Everyone’s a suspect in the crime, so head to Diletto Winery to come help solve the mystery. Price includes participation in the murder mystery program, a four-course meal, and a glass of wine, sangria, or beer. Participants must be 18 or older. Space is limited. Register by August 10.
Lunch and Learn: Heart Disease: Friday, August 18, 12-1 pm. JCC Multi-Purpose Room. A cardiologist from Mercy Health will discuss ways to prevent heart disease, heart disease diagnosis, and treatment for heart disease. RSVP to Sheila Cornell is required by August 16.
Lunch and Learn: Walking a Tightrope: Tuesday, August 22, 11:30 am-1 pm. JCC Multi-Purpose Room. Join us for a fascinating, interactive lecture where we will explore the Supreme Court’s role in defending human rights and reshaping Israel’s Democratic yet Jewish identity. Rotem Malac, the speaker, is both a licensed attorney and a teacher, currently working as the central emissary in North America for the World Zionist Organization’s Department of Diaspora Activities. The event is free and open to the public. A light lunch will be served. RSVP to Gon Erez is required by August 18.
